How do I apply for a credit card?

I have a checking account with bank of america. I'm a college student. So should i apply for a student credit card since I don't have a credit history? Is there a maximum amount on the card? Someone told me that a credit card from Bank of America has a maximum amount of $500. Please do give me the best suggestions. Thanks.|||The maximum amount is determined by your credit, it can be as little as $250 or in the thousands. You have little credit history so obviously it would be low. Apply for the bank of America card and also try http://www.citicards.com

Use credit responsibly. It is hard to build credit, see http://finance-girl.blogspot.com/2006/09鈥?/a> for tips on building credit from scratch and http://finance-girl.blogspot.com/2006/09鈥?/a> to learn how to raise your credit score.|||call the bank of america and discuss what type of credit card is best for you. sometimes they often extend the maximum amount if you request it. you should start small tho. make sure you check around with other banks before you sign nething too, so you can make sure you get the best deal possible.|||You could use a debit card,it's a card that's draws money from your account directly thereby stops if not enough...God bless!|||Contact Bank of America. A student cc is a good way to begin because the terms are not as stringent as with a regular account. Also, the amount of credit they start you off with will usually be a small amount like $300 - $500 until you spend some of it and make timely payments. This will build your credit history with them and usually within 6 months to a year they will review your account and upgrade it (unless you call them sooner and ask about an increase).|||My first word of caution is not to apply online for credit cards unless you know the website is legitimate. You will have to enter your social security number, date of birth and other personal data. Make sure the site is legitimate because any moron can build a website. There is a web site that reviews credit cards impartially and I am providing the link below. It will help you make the wisest choice based on interest rates, employment or student status, annual fees if any, etc. Don't just jump at the first offer you have for credit.

Now, if you look around at the other questions on Yahoo about how to get out of debt and how to escape the credit card trap, it's because as a young person you are a target for credit card companies that want you in their wheel. Credit cards are an amazing convenience but all conveniences have their price... 12-20% interest on a loan with money you don't have yet. It's seen as easy monthly payments of $20-30 a month. Who can't make those payments??? Well, after card one comes card two and card three.

It's easy to use a credit card but hard to repay it. I am not saying don't get one and don't use it but use your head. It's not good debt.

Check the bankrate link for application information and proceed with caution.|||There is some useful advice here.
